Iceland – November 2019
I always wanted to witness the Northern Lights at least once in my life – and boy I did!
Iceland is a country with dramatic landscape, hot springs & geysers & its spectacular northern lights. You have got to experience it all!
I went to Iceland in the winter of 2019 – right before COVID started. In fact, Iceland was my last international trip before all hell broke loose. Regardless, Iceland is magnificent!
Highlights
In Iceland, I stayed at a hotel called Midgardur by Center hotels. Excellent location, economical hotel & most tour companies offer pick up from this hotel.
Number #1 – Blue Lagoon – You’ve seen this place several times on social media haven’t you? This is the famous geothermal spa in Iceland. The water temperature of Blue Lagoon is at 98-degree F (approximately 40 C) – comfortable for a dip. Blue lagoon is just 20 minutes away from the major international Keflavik airport.
Number #2: The “Golden Circle” and the “South Coast” day tours.
The Golden Circle is a popular scenic route that includes geysers, waterfalls & a national park.
The South Coast tour includes famous black sand beaches, waterfalls & more.
These two are the popular scenic routes in Iceland.
Number #3 – Secret Lagoon
My fav! Great comfortable water temperature of 98F (40C) in a chilly November weather.
Number #4 Northern Lights –I had two nights to witness the magical northern lights — & I did! What a spectacle!
Fortunately, there are tours available that take you directly to prime viewing spots. Some tours even offer a guarantee – if you happen to miss the lights on your scheduled night, they’ll typically allow you to join the next night’s tour for free. So you got a shot at witnessing this awe-inspiring event.”
