On my trip to Japan this year, I walked so much that I far surpassed the 10K steps guideline. No kidding. You will walk a lot in Japan and that’s good for you. As I was walking on Tokyo’s Godzilla Head street, I discovered this little hidden store with images of puppy dogs. The sign board of this place read something like “You Can Pet Cute Puppies Here”. I thought that was too good to be true. I never imagined there was going to be a puppy dog petting establishment in the middle of busy Tokyo streets.
I love dogs but I don’t want to own one as a pet. Dogs are too much work. Not to mention how expensive dogs can get with vet visits & shots. It’s a full time job. Okay, enough talk about dog owning & vet bills!
So, I walked into this puppy dog petting place as soon as it opened at 11:30 am. Inside, I found a rowdy little gang of cute, adorable pups ready to get fed by its visitors. Look how hunger struck this pup was. You can see it in its eyes….

A rather hungry & bored looking dog at a pet cafe
This place is called Puppy Cafe Rio, located in the famous Godzilla Head street in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district in Tokyo.
When you enter the premises, you will be greeted by high-energy hungry puppies. The place offers its human visitors a package deal where you can pick the type of dog food. You also get to pick the duration you want to spend at this puppy cafe. Charges vary depending on the time and the type of package you select. Be prepared to shell out approximately 1,300 Yen (9 USD) per hour. This does not include your drinks or food.

Excited puppy dogs ready to greet their first visitor of the day in the cafe
How adorable are these puppies. Apparently, chicken is their favorite food. But some puppy dogs are allergic to chicken, the hostess will let you know. This place also offers drinks & light snacks, for humans. Ha.

Visiting a puppy cafe is a fun way to spend lazy afternoons in Tokyo.
