I live in an apartment and my AC was out for almost a week in the middle of scorching summer! I had to get a hotel near by for a few nights to cool off. Sounds like a waste of money? I certainly value my life over money.
The AC issue was a health risk for me – not being dramatic, I promise! Look at my thermostat reading from last week.

Anyway, I am always ready for a short trip because I know exactly what to pack. After all, I am only gone for a few nights before they fix my AC. Well the packing list is long depending on how picky you are.
However, I will list 5 essential travel items that you must carry with you, anywhere you go!
1. Medicines
This is important depending on where you live. In the US, if you lose your prescription drugs then you need to get them prescribed again from your doctor & that process takes at least a few days. It is not just the cost but some may need to take medication in order to avoid serious health issues. So pack your medicines or supplements with you!
2. ID & Passport

This is an absolute must, no matter where you go. Hotels check for your ID. And if you are an expat like me, you know that taking your passport with you on trips is a cardinal rule! Because losing a passport & renewing one is a pain the butt!
3. Toiletries

Where can I start… Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, face wash, deodorant & anything else you need to feel fresh! I also carry a small face towel because. Well.. I don’t really trust hotels with towels 😐
And ladies …. DON’T forget your Shower cap!!
4. Extra clothes

Especially undergarments! Not that you are going to accidentally wet your pants ..well you never know! I always carry an extra pair of t-shirts & night wear, wherever I go.
5. Reusable water bottle

Trust me – you need this! Hotels charge an exorbitant sum of money for bottled water, and yet they have a purified water filter / water faucet right on or near the property. Get your own reusable water bottle to avoid spending on plastic water bottles – that are known to contain micro plastics. Save your health & your wallet!
